Manuel Aja Espil (1987) nasceu em Buenos Aires, Argentina, e vive atualmente em Madrid, Espanha. Aspirante cineasta, começou a estudar Cinema, que mais tarde abandonou para se dedicar à pintura. Autodidata, aprendeu a pintar ao imitar estilos históricos e lendo livros de história de arte desde cedo. A pintura de Aja Espil nasce da necessidade de criar mundos. Pinta universos fantásticos inspirados na tradição pictórica europeia e na iconografia contemporânea.
Manuel Aja Espil participou no Programa de Artistas da Universidade Torcuato Di Tella (Buenos Aires, 2016), na Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture (Maine, 2019) e no International Studio & Curatorial Program (Nova Iorque, 2022). O seu trabalho foi exposto no Museu MALBA, Fundação Proa, bem como noutros locais privados em Buenos Aires, Lisboa e Nova Iorque. Recebeu a bolsa da Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation (Canadá, 2022 e 2023) e a bolsa do Fondo Nacional de las Artes (Argentina, 2018).

 

Manuel Aja Espil (1987) was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is currently based in Madrid, Spain. An aspiring filmmaker, he began studying Film which he later abandoned to devote himself to painting. Self-taught, he learned to paint by imitating historical styles at a young age and reading art history books. Aja Espil’s painting is born out of a need to create worlds. He paints fantastic universes inspired by European pictorial tradition and contemporary iconography.
Manuel Aja Espil participated in the Artists’ Program at Torcuato Di Tella University (Buenos Aires, 2016), at Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture (Maine, 2019) and at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (New York, 2022). His work was exhibited in MALBA Museum, Proa Foundation, as well as other private venues in Buenos Aires, Lisbon and New York. He was a recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant (Canada, 2022 and 2023), and of the Fondo Nacional de las Artes’ Grant (Argentina, 2018).

 

 

O trabalho de Manuel Aja Espil estará em exposição, com Telúricos, até ao dia 23 de Novembro de Terça-feira a Sábado, entre as 14h e as 19h30.
